The agreement
These terms cover your use of knewpeople (“the app”). Using the app means you accept them. If you do not, delete it.
The app is licensed to you, not sold. You may use it on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use.
The beta
knewpeople is in a closed beta, offered by invitation. Features can change or disappear, and the service can be interrupted while we work on it.
We may end your access to the beta, and we may end the beta itself. If that happens, what is on your phone is still on your phone.
What you record about other people
knewpeople is a notebook, and the notes are about people who are not in the room. You are responsible for what you write down, what you look up, and for following the laws that apply where you are. Some places treat notes about identifiable people as regulated data.
Do not use knewpeople to record or research anyone you have no business recording or researching, to monitor or track a person, or to build a dossier on someone who would object. That is not what it is for, and it is a reason to lose access.
Accounts and what you publish
An account is optional. If you make one, keep it to yourself, and claim only links that are yours.
What you publish — your name and links when you list yourself, an event you share publicly — is visible to others as described in the Privacy Policy. Publish only what you are entitled to, and nothing misleading. We may remove a listing, a published event, or an account that misuses them.
No tolerance for abuse
There is no tolerance on knewpeople for objectionable content or abusive users: nothing hateful, harassing, sexual, violent, threatening or deceptive, and no pretending to be someone else, in anything you publish — your name, photo, bio, links or an event.
Anyone shown at an event can be reported or blocked from their card. We review every report within 24 hours and remove what breaks these rules, and we remove the accounts of people who do it again. Blocking someone means neither of you sees the other at any event.
To report something outside the app, write to hello@knewpeople.com.
What the app writes
Summaries, suggested questions, drafted messages, and reasons a web page might be someone are produced by a language model from what you gave it and what it read on the public web. They can be wrong.
Every web match is a suggestion until you confirm it. Confirming is your judgement, not ours. Do not rely on anything the app produces for a decision that matters — hiring, lending, safety, or anything else with consequences for the person.
Your content
What you write in your notebook stays yours. It sits on your device; we have no access to it and no ability to recover it. Anything you choose to share with someone you are connected to is the exception, and it is limited to names, faces and where you met — never a word you wrote.
Because it lives only on your device, backing that device up is your responsibility. We cannot restore anything lost to a broken, lost, or wiped phone.
Subscriptions
Parts of knewpeople may be offered as a paid subscription. Where they are, the price, the billing period, and any free trial are shown before you confirm, and your store shows them in your own currency.
Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation. A subscription renews automatically at the same price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Manage or cancel it in Settings under your Apple ID — deleting the app does not cancel it.
A free trial, where offered, is once per subscription group. Cancel during it and you are not charged; any unused part of it is forfeited when a paid subscription begins.
If a subscription lapses, everything you have already saved stays on your phone and stays readable. Only new paid work stops.
Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are Apple's under their terms — reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue them directly.
No warranty
The app is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability arising out of the app is limited to what you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including lost data or lost profits.
Apple
Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to support the app. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.
If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty obligation.
Changes and contact
These terms can change. Material changes appear here with a new date, and continuing to use the app accepts them.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, USA.
